Match more than the brand
Verify model name or number, body size, color code, box dimensions, label style, insert, and company naming. A Heddon lure in a Heddon box is not necessarily a matched pair.
Compare wear patterns
A heavily worn lure in a crisp box may still be a legitimate pairing, but it deserves scrutiny. Look for hook marks inside the box, age-consistent paper, staining, and whether the insert fits the body.
Protect paper evidence
Do not tape loose labels, laminate inserts, erase pencil prices, or clean paper aggressively. Store box and lure so hooks cannot puncture or scrape the packaging.
Describe box confidence
Use “with box,” “appears matched,” or “box label matches model and color” when appropriate. Reserve “original box” for a pairing you can support.
